CBSI OVERVIEW
CBSI CARIBBEAN is a small part of the enormous work God is doing worldwide thru Community Bible Study Int’l. While the area of the Caribbean Sea is large, the population of these islands is very small in comparison to North and Central America which together make up the North Central America region which in turn is just one of the seven regions which make up CBSI worldwide. This page is intended to give you a grasp of the huge scope of the work God has called CBSI to accomplish as it works alongside the local church to make disciples for our Lord Jesus Christ.
MISSION
- To make disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ, in our communities through in-depth, caring, Bible study, available to all.
HISTORY
- Community Bible Study began classes in England and Peru in 1979. By 1986, there were many more requests for CBS courses overseas. Realizing that God had a great plan in mind, Community Bible Study International (CBSI) was incorporated as a separate ministry in 1992, dedicated to making disciples for Christ around the world. On January 1, 2008, CBS and CBSI were reunited within Community Bible Study. CBSI continues to have the access of many of the CBS Bible study materials and teaching aids. CBSI uses these materials in English and translates them for use in classes various countries around the world. CBSI serves as the missionary arm to CBS so that together we strive to get “everyone in the world, in the Word.”

OUR CORE VALUES
- CBSI trusts God and His Word to transform lives. We trust God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to transform lives through the study of His Word. This is the surest way to make disciples for Jesus Christ.
- CBSI is a ministry led by the Holy Spirit. We stress the importance of prayer and dependence upon God in every aspect of the ministry. This is God’s ministry and we seek to give Him all the glory.
- CBSI is to be every person’s Bible study. Our Bible study program should be available to everyone, including Christians from all traditions. We seek appropriate methods and opportunities to make this become a reality. The aim of Community Bible Study International is to enable and encourage people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs to come together to study the Bible in a structured and supportive way. A place where they will discover the truth of the Bible and be challenged to apply it to their lives.
- CBSI is a team ministry. Leadership is most effectively exercised in CBSI within a team relationship. We seek to establish servant teams at each level of leadership. Mentoring/Shepherding occurs at every level so that each individual feels connected and cared for and does not operate in isolation. Through an effective training program, each leader is trained for his or her role. We equip followers of Christ to become dynamic Christian leaders and active participants in the discipleship process of the Church. Leaders feel called by God to their roles and give of their time and talents out of love for Him.
- CBSI is a multicultural ministry. We are a partnership of national organizations, with each country implementing the CBSI Bible Study program. The National Servant team and National Board assume ownership and oversight of the CBSI program within their country, both operationally and financially. We allow flexible implementation of our CBSI program within each cultural context in order to ensure that the ministry remains relevant and appropriately understood.
- CBSI is to serve the Body of Christ. We make every effort to stand in the center of the mainstream of historic Christianity. We concentrate on the essentials of the Christian faith, not individual church doctrine. As we learn to love and respect one another we recognize that followers of Christ can hold different views on matters that are not essential to salvation. We learn to “agree to disagree” and still love and care for each other as we grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. We respect and cooperate with local Christian leaders.
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
- CBS International is a Bible Study for every person. We believe that the Bible is to be studied by all people inside the church as well as those outside of it. Although there are differences between Christian groups, CBS International deliberately chooses not to side with any ecclesiastical body and will not change our materials to fit any unique doctrinal views. Instead, our purpose is to be a unifying force amongst the greater Christian community around the world by getting them into the Holy Scripture in such a way that it brings love and unity.
- We believe…the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is divine revelation and the inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original manuscripts. Its teaching is authoritative for the Christian life in matters of faith and practice.
- We believe…in the unity of the Godhead, eternally existing in three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and yet identical in nature; all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere present and unchangeable; infinitely perfect in love, truth, righteousness, justice, goodness, grace and mercy.
- We believe…as the Nicene Creed states, that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is both fully God and fully man, two natures in one Person. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He performed miracles to manifest His deity, lived a sinless life, suffered and died as a completely satisfactory sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. He arose from the dead on the third day and His bodily resurrection guarantees the resurrection of all who believe in Him. He ascended to the right hand of God the Father where He reigns over the universe, intercedes for believers and will return to earth to establish His Kingdom.
- We believe…man was created in the image of God but fell into disobedience by a voluntary decision and, as a result, became spiritually separated from God. This fallen nature was transmitted to all humanity. But redemption for man is found in the blood of Jesus Christ. Only those who are in Jesus Christ are forgiven, born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become children of God. Biblical faith is necessary for salvation. Good works and righteous living will accompany such faith and furnish evidence of its existence.
- We believe…the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the moment one is brought into the body of Christ. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convince men of sin, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service. We believe all Christians should witness for Christ in His power and study the Bible with His help.
- We believe…the Church, composed of all who are genuinely planted by faith into the body of Christ, is united together into one body of which Christ Jesus is the Head. As members of the Church, it is our responsibility to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, supporting the local church and loving one another with pure hearts
